This is actually the most important (and most ignored) aspect of the mount. You may be tempted to think of the Skyscale's flight like a WoW mount, occasionally boosting for an extra bit of horizontal speed. Griffon is the fastest mount, really useful to cross an entire map in 2 seconds. But you need to climb before, if you cant, use roller beetle (on PoF basically). Raptor on short and flat distance (between 2 tarir chest for example). Jackal needed to cross areas with a lots of ennemies, without taking a single hit.

Go to the Peak of the Mountain to Override a Sunwing. After you've crafted the Override, follow the objective marker approach a Sunwing at the peak of the mountain from behind. They won't see you if you crouch and sneak up from behind, so this shouldn't pose a big problem. You'll override one as part of the Quest, so there's no way to miss
If you can fly, just fly over. Get a water walking potion, and ride over the water. Just running isn't fast enough, but the lower level mount should be quick enough to get you across before you die of fatigue. Druids with swimming form can swim across. If you are too low level for any of these, you'll have to use the die and rez on the boat trick.
