I think it is one of the best digital cameras Nikon has made. And now with PureRAW higher ISO is really no problem. I typically import 30 or so files at a time (many years of shooting film, makes 30 a natural stopping point for me). The D300 is/was an iconic box and mine is still doing good service. 30 shots natural stopping point? As I have shown in some of my tests before, the difference between the Nikon D700 sensor and the Nikon D3s sensor is roughly 1-1.5 stops. Still, the D700 produces amazing results at high ISOs that even the most current Nikon DX sensors like D7000 cannot match. NIKON D700 @ 24mm, ISO 200, 1/160, f/8.0
Here's a list of those older cameras for which my reviews are no longer available: DX Models (1.5x crop sensor): D40 (6mp) and D40x (10mp) — no longer recommended. D50 (6mp) — no longer recommended. D60 (10mp) — no longer recommended. D70 and D70s (6mp) — no longer recommended. D80 (10mp) — not recommended (exposure, amp noise)
D800 is worlds better than a D700. D800 vs D810 no real big differences, i owned both, still have a D810 as 2nd cam. Came from a D50 to D300, then D700 and D800. The jump to FX isnt that big of a deal, DX lenses work fine on FX bodies and vice versa. But HUGE image quality differences between D700 and D800. Never used the 7200 or 7100.
If you don't want to think, get the D610, it's not worth figuring out if it has any issues or not. Either that or get it refurbished straight from Nikon. Nikon D7000/ Nikon D40/ Nikon FM2/ 18-135 AF-S/ 35mm 1.8 AF-S/ 105mm Macro AF-S/ 50mm 1.2 AI-S The D700 comes in two configurations: body only and a kit with the veteran AF-S VR 24-120mm f3.5-5.6G IF-ED lens. With the kit version you end up paying about $300 to $400 for the lens, which sells If you are still in doubt: read my review and see if this camera is for you. Thinking about other options? Read my 2023 review of the original Sony A7, the Sony A7RIII, Nikon D700, Nikon D800 and Nikon D750. If you have any questions or remarks, please feel free to leave me a comment. Otherwise: happy reading! Nikon DfPrices for a used Nikon D700 from MPB start at $434, which make it a great second body for Nikon owners and an excellent first camera for young photography enthusiasts who want to start off on the right track. At this cost-saving price you’ll have money enough left over to buy a used Nikon lens or two from MPB. 5. Pentax K-3 II
It is the Nikkormat and not the Nikon. It is the stepson of the D3. But, there are newer and better cameras, namely, the D600 is the winner, a slightly more expensive than the D700 in the used market, $1400 vs $1000. With the exception of only 39 consumer grade focus points, the D600 out shine the D700.
Voightlander seems to continue with their SL-IIs Nikon line of lenses. They recently introduced a new 28mm 2.8 that focuses to 15cm and the 90mm 2.8 that’s an APO lens. Zeiss has absolutely top quality lineup of ZF.2 lenses with their Milvus and Otus lines. I think people buy lenses very long after they buy cameras. The Nikon D600 and Nikon D700 very different cameras from different eras. The D700 is a larger, tougher semi-pro FX camera with a full complement of autofocus controls on the front and back of the camera, while the D600 is a newer, smaller, lighter camera that folds the AF controls into one button to hold while you spin dials to set it. .
